Ingredients
2 lbs ground beef
1 large onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 bell pepper, diced
2 cans (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
2 cans (15 oz) kidney beans, drained
1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained
2 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon cumin
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Directions

Base

  1. Heat olive oil in large pot over medium heat.
  2. Brown ground beef, breaking up with spoon, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Add onions and bell pepper, cook until softened, 5 minutes.
  4. Add garlic, cook 1 minute until fragrant.

Simmering

  1. Stir in tomato paste, cook 1 minute.
  2. Add crushed tomatoes, beans, broth, and all spices.
  3. Add brown sugar and bay leaves.
  4. Bring to boil, then reduce to low simmer.
  5. Cover and simmer 1.5-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. Remove bay leaves, adjust seasoning, and serve hot.
